Shaping solo business to be simple (enough) sooner.

BOOK SESSION

the need.

To many, solo business is a small small business. We see solo business as a specialist way of working. While everything has to be done by one, that includes both doing the day-to-day work as well as thinking, deciding, designing, building, testing, integrating, troubleshooting, and using.

the reality.

the reality.

Solo business can be done at a sprint or seemingly slow. The reality is that both are doable in solo business, and both need the same thing to be achievable for the long term — clear thinking.

When the thinking is clear, the dots are connected, the parts are working together, and there is a sense, both in and out of the business, of cohesion.

the doing.

Starting, building, growing, and closing a solo business is bigger than a list of things to check off.

Being a big part of business means there’s a big part of you interwoven into each part, which means some things are held onto for longer than they’re (actually) needed, some are not started before when they’re (absolutely) needed (or at all), and sometimes it’s just too much to know where the right place to start is to trust it is done and doesn’t need to be redone later.

The need to start, keep going, or to call it in solo business is to keep each effort, each build, each growth and regression small and connected to the bigger picture.

of note.

of note.

You may or may not have noticed yet, but when you want to work with a specialist, they are super specialised, like so much so that you may find yourself squeezing to squeeze into their scope of service. Fun note, this is a product of businesses being built from the front (aka a marketing base build).

the difference.

Here we offer the offer to work one-with-one with Kathy under one umbrella that is known by two types of service. Kathy a mentor and as a thought partner. The detectable difference between these types of service is only detected in session.

As a mentor there is a greater focus and pace to support a space for individualised learning where we grow business skills and acumen with the individual's needs.

As a thought partner the session is more focused towards applying the business skills and acumen in the thinking before, during, and after a growth in the business.

The difference in these seemingly simple services scope is that Kathy works with solo businesses as a specialist generalist, which means she is tracking the thinking from before the beginning to long after the end.

We work with solo businesses to build the base of the business with a back-to-front business thinking approach.

FAQs

FAQs

  • You’re here which means you’re most likely looking to work with Kathy in some capacity.

While you’re most welcome to jump on in a 90-minute session, we’ve worked hard to make the 30-minute session within reach for most. In less than half an hour, there’s enough room to start working with Kathy and, surprisingly, more than enough room to walk away with an actionable action list!

  • Yes. For our regular returns we do work in ways to meet in person from time to time.

  • No. We can work with the business owner of other business types (e.g., small businesses) to create or iterate the key thinking behind the business by way of the business name (or thinking behind the name), business position, business model(s), and/or key messaging.

  • While we believe solo business is a way of thinking and working, everything we do here is considered and connected to the knowing that businesses can grow in many ways, so it’s important that resources, structures, and services are future-ready.

You may find you’re better for building your own business and being across the parts of your business as you delegate them to your new team members to manage.

  • The ‘we’ is me (Kathy Rast) + Little Language Matters*

To let you in on a little of the thinking behind this is that, one, it’s hella easy to right in the third person in copy and content!

The second is for me (Kathy) as solo business owner.

‘We’ in the context of referring my business of Little Language Matters* keeps front of mind that I’m part of something bigger in my business.

This is the base of much of the thinking we work from with all of our clients to support a sense of separation that supports stronger connections across the business.

  • Language is just the way we work with you.

When you go to an accountant, they look through a finance lens; a marketer, a marketing lens; and a doctor, a medical lens.

Listening to your language as we do here is the closest we can get to knowing what you’re really thinking.

Many start self-conscious and quickly relax as they realise how much easier (and effective) it is to let someone else share the 🧠 load.

  • Kathy’s often in the office on the weekend as it’s so much quieter. It’s also helpful to know Kathy has worked shift work for most of her work life, so working the weekend feels normal.

While we can’t do evening sessions at this stage, we enjoy meeting our solo businesses in the more relaxed feels in the space of a weekend.

And, we’re always toying with the idea of a Sunday session too. If you’re keen, please let Kathy know by emailing kathy@littlelanguagematters.com.au
