Saying solo business is a side hustle is as attractive as skinny jeans with a muffin top.

Here we're cutting the fat from the assumed assumptions of squeezing into old ways of working on the side to growing solo business to being a better fit.

the idea.

When we think of the big picture in business, often it’s about what a business can do for an industry, a market, or a niche. Here, when we’re thinking of a bigger picture. We see what a business owner can (actually) offer over and over again on any given day.

While many see this business bar as low, we see it as much, much more.

the crime scene.

True story. To give you an idea of the moment you can realise you run your solo business even on a day that starts off script, we share a short story.

Picture this, the sun is not up, everyone’s asleep, and you hear a swear sworn somewhere in the house. You try and hide under the covers hoping it’ll go away because you have things to do today 🫣

Now, imagine a short time later as you’re already shifting your calendar around to care for your sick loved one all the while laughing with your other half as finish telling ‘em that you were sick on the sick and now you’re cleaning up double the sick 😝

The best part is that you already know what you’ve got to do (no wriggle room), what you can do (can be picked up tomorrow), and that all the admin’s up-to-date (woohoo!) 🙌

the point.

These are the moments in the life we live before, during and after work that it’s assumed we can and will balance. Our point here’s simple: whether it be caring for others or your own needs, or wanting something that’s only yours to offer, running a solo business can be made simple enough to work with the way you (need to) work.

our part.

Kathy Rast sits on a grey sofa with her legs crossed, laptop on her lap while wondering how solo business can be simple enough for today.

our part.

There are so many ways to build and be in business…too many ways, so much so that even we get overwhelmed on the regular (and it’s our business to be in business 😅).

It’s in these moments, and all the ones in between, that we step back and remember our part to play (aka connect with our own thinking behind our solo business — yes, ‘we’ means ‘me’, Kathy Rast + ‘Little Language Matters*’). Our part to play is:

To simplify the thinking behind solo business to be simple (enough).

Here we work with what already works in business, look a little deeper in the old thinking still being suggested in different business structures, and learn a lot about how we’re (actually) working now.

Here in Little Language Matters* we’re here for the thinkers who want to share a little of the 🧠 load behind their business.

We’re here to look at all the little links between the bigger parts in a standard business setup.

We lessen the learning curves so that you can (actually) know what’s what, what each part is called, what each part does, and where it’s important to (actually) use each part in your solo business ways and days.

the start.

the start.

Starting anywhere’s a start, and because everything we do here is connected, it will soon enough come together. So just start. Because we want solo businesses to succeed, we’re working to make solo business support and resources reachable at any stage in business.

LISTEN to our podcast as Kathy shares all things wins, woes, and ways of (actually) working in solo business. Like in real life, these conversations are helpful to hear the informal chit-chat that can sometimes be the bridging piece between the learning curve lessons.

👓 (coming soon)

SEE the thinking as it’s being thought through and (literally) be drawn out on Kathy’s desk in our video podcasts. These are helpful to learn a little more about the thinking shared here so that you can choose other starting points to scaffold your ways and days from.

🧠

GET IT DONE build your own solo business resources from our Solo Business Projects or work with Kathy to find, design, or build what you need to continue to make your solo business ways and days simple enough. This is helpful when you want to shorten the suck or time it takes to get where you’re going.
